Happy Holly Jolly and all that shit...
Just can't seem to keep current on the news here. Maybe it's this shitty, clunky server, I (who know jack all about computers) do it myself, and you get what you fucking pay for.
We're kicking the year off right opening up at The Carousel Lounge with the amazing Rite Fyers and the seriously under-rated Why Not Satellite on January 20th. We're gonna have to seriously shake the rust off our set to play with those heavyweights without looking like fools. Maybe a new tune or two - we'll see how relearning the old stuff goes after satying out of the practice space for a month and a half. Approximate times are over there to your left but, really, you should stay the whole night. Cover charge for this one is, I believe, NOTHING.
February 10th will see us debuting at The Frontier Bar, a really cool new East Austin venue, with the resurgent Wheel and The Decade Show, both mighty contenders. We're in the middle on that one - look for the approximate times blah blah blah...
Got feelers out to Skinny's Ballroom and The Hole in the Wall, but so far they're not feeling back. With the holidays just passing I'm going give them and a couple of other places a week or so before hitting them with the charm offensive and getting us booked past Feb.
I wouldn't look for us in March - we're continuing our annual boycott of SXSW and, unless we get invited to play some cool party, will probably sit the whole thing out. Playing on either side of that juggernaut is basically a waste of time (although before is better than after, so we'll see), so it may be April before we continue our endeavor to create a new era in rock 'n' roll.
Stay out of jail and the morgue Sat. night. Celebrate the advent of the year in which The Mayans come and eat all of us as safely and responsibly as possible. I know with a lot of folks who follow us that'll be a stretch near to the breaking point, but give it a try.
Talk to ya next year...

Pardons for the long silence, but there hasn't been anything, at least anything band relevant to report. That's all changed. We've been honored to be asked to play on two super fucking cool shows and, although they're only five days apart, we just couldn't say no to either. First up, Asteroid Shop has asked us to open up their CD release show Sat. Oct 15th at Skinny's Ballroom. Ghost Wolves will be taking that middle slot. It's doubly exciting for us because we've been trying to get a booking at Skinny's for some time and, not only did it finally come through, it came through on a great bill.
Next, Thurs. Oct. 20th at the mighty ND @ 501 Studios we'll be sharing the stage with The Rite Flyers. I shouldn't have to tell you they're one of the best bands in Austin, and this show will be their return from an over a year long hiatus taken for personal reasons with one of the band members. The Fledglings are hitting the stage at 9, The Rite Flyers at 10, your friends Austerity Measures at 11, and the ass-whoopin' Perilous Tide will finish making your ears ring in the midnight slot.
You really should go to both, but we'll grudgingly understand if you can only make one.
To sweeten the deal (maybe) Austerity Measures will be playing up to three new songs at both gigs. How 'bout that?
Possible benefit gig at Jovita's Sat. Dec. 10th. We'll keep you posted. Hope to see you out in a couple of weeks.

Our good friends and super talented indie popsters Why Not Satellite will be filling that TBA slot, and we thank them kindly for it. Times over there to the left are approximate - get there by 9 and you won't miss anything. And stay tuned - there may be one more band joining us Saturday night.

Since August 24th became increasingly problematic the harder we worked on straightening it out, the folks at The ND called it cursed and struck it from the calendar. The show will now fall on Saturday, August 27th. That to left is subject to change when a third band is added. You'll know when we know.

ELVIS has cancelled for our ND show August 25th. Check back here, on Facebook, or reverbnation.com/austeritymeasures for what's likely to end up being an 11th hour replacement.

We're excited as hell to be warming up the stage for Austin's own ELVIS on August 25th. This is no cheesy impersonator, kids. This is one ass kicking punk rock band. I saw them open for Spoon at The Mohawk last September and I can't remember the last time a new band (for me, anyway) excited me more. I'd love for you all to come see us, but you owe it to yourselves to see ELVIS. I'm not familiar with Codename Boris and can't speak to them - you'll have to do your own research - but I'm sure if our friends at The ND saw fit to put them on the bill they're well worth checking out.
We'll be back at The ND on October 20th, closing out a full night. Early on there's going to be an art opening (whose I don't know - you'll know when I do), a 30 or so minute acoustic set by lovely former Austinite Doe Montoya followed by a production of "The Insane" - an intense and disturbing slab of Brechtian/Artaudian theater by the incredibly talented former Austinite Scot Casey, featuring Scot and myself. When all that wraps up at around 10 we'll let everyone catch their breath and then The Rite Flyers and Austerity Measures will release all that pent up tension with some spirited indie rock. You can take us out of the mix and it will still be one hell of a ride and well worth your time. I've gotta say I'm honored that we're being included.
We still need to cut that track for the compilation (see below). We'll likely have a brand new song for you on the 25th. We may be playing Skinny's Ballroom in September - still working on that one.
Hope to see you August 25th.

Well, we're finally getting around to the "info" part of this page. Pretty dry summer for AM, which actually works out okay since all three of us have other obligations that will keep us out of the rehearsal space through June. If we have time to dust things off and get at least one of those new songs presentable that July 22nd show should be a home run. If not the other bands will easily pull out the stick we put in your craw.
We're going to hit the studio soon and record "State of the Union" - it'll be up on our various online players and also released on the Flak Records comp due out in the fall. Otherwise you'll just have to wait until we get 12 songs together and put out a record (1/4 of the way there!) to own this mini, ahem, masterpiece. That undertaking will also involve a substantial amount of money, so don't look for it any time in the near future.
Stay cool (in the physical sense - we got over the attitude a long time ago), enjoy your summer, and come see us on July 22nd. That room looks awful big when it's empty.
